Call for Participation: Week of Agent-Based and Biological Simulation Events Centre for Research on Intelligent Systems Monash University 9 - 12th July, 2012 Melbourne, Australia |

We invite you, your students and colleagues to participate in an exciting inter-disciplinary workshop tackling the diverse problems and techniques of individual-based ecological and biological simulation with applications in biology, ecology, engineering, computer science, electronic media art, philosophy, epidemiology, economics, demography, social science and complexity science. The workshop will be held during the period of 9-12th July 2012 at Monash University, Melbourne, Australia.
There will be presentations and seminars led by national and international experts in the field, including Prof. Seth Bullock who will travel from the U.K. to lead some of the sessions and Prof. Corey Bradshaw from University of Adelaide. Discussions during which selected issues (including those raised by participants) will be raised and tackled are also scheduled. There will be many opportunities for informal social events over food, coffee and more substantial drinks.

The workshop will offer sessions of value to first-time modellers and experienced practitioners alike. Anyone from students to professors is welcome to attend. We hope to hear from you.

Attendance information.
Attendence is free! Space is limited, however, so if you would like to attend please provide with your RSVP a brief statement of your main disciplinary interests, an indication of your level of experience with simulation, and two or three topics you would find interesting to discuss. If we receive more applications than we can accommodate, we will use this information to assist us to select who we think would benefit the most from attendance. This information will also be used to assist us to plan the event so that there is something of value in it for all.

Seth Bullock BIOGRAPHY

After gaining a BA in cognitive science and a DPhil (PhD) in evolutionary simulation modelling from the School of Cognitive and Computing Sciences at Sussex University (supervised by Dave Cliff and Phil Husbands), I spent two years in Berlin at the Max Planck Institute for Human Development working with Peter Todd on simulating the evolution of adaptive decision-making behaviour in people and other animals. In 1999 I took up a five-year University Research Fellowship at the University of Leeds and became a Lecturer there in 2004. In October 2005 I joined the University of Southampton as Senior Lecturer, and helped to found the Science and Engineering of Natural Systems (SENSe) research group. In 2009 I became head of the SENSe group, and also became Director of Southampton's new Institute for Complex Systems Simulation (ICSS). In 2010 I became co-director of the University Strategic Research Group in Complexity in Real World Contexts (USRG Complexity), for which I run a Complex Systems Simulation Seminar Series (CS^4). In 2011 I was promoted to Professor of Computer Science and helped found the Agents, Interaction and Complexity (AIC) research group.

Corey co-directs The Environment Institute's Climate and Ecology Centre and the School of Earth and Environmental Sciences' Global Change Ecology Group at the University of Adelaide. He is also associated with the South Australian Research and Development Institute.
Corey has a broad range of research interests including population dynamics, extinction theory, sustainable harvest, climate change impacts on biodiversity, invasive species, and works on a variety of taxa from the Antarctic to the tropics.
