Information graphics--diagrams, charts and maps--allow
humans to understand and communicate complex multidimensional data.
In this talk I will analyse
why information graphics can be so successful and also describe some of the
research projects happening
in the Laboratory for Intelligent
Documents & Diagrams at Monash. They include:
Visualizing argument structure; network diagram layout;
human comprehension of algebraic notation and presenting diagrams to blind people.
