BIOSKETCH

Born in Calcutta, India in 1981, Punarjay Chakravarty (Jay) finished high school from National Public School, Bangalore in 1999. Moving to Australia, he completed his Bachelor of Electrical Engineering with Honours from the University of Melbourne in 2004.  Jay is currently a doctoral candidate at  Monash University, Melbourne.

RESEARCH INTERESTS

  1. Person Finding and Tracking: Algorithms for finding people from a video stream obtained from stationary cameras and non-stationary ones mounted on mobile robots.

  2. Multiple Target Tracking: The tracking of multiple people, and other entities including robots.

  3. Mobile Robot Localization: The global localization of a mobile robot, given a map of its environment.

  4. Collaborative Surveillance: The surveillance of an indoor environment using a combination of stationary cameras and a mobile robot.

 

    My research platform is a Pioneer Mobile Robot, nicknamed "Heimdall", mounted with a laser range finder, a perspective camera

    and a panoramic camera with a 360 degree field of vision.
