My research

I am a PhD candidate jointly supervised by the Faculty of Information Technology and the Faculty of Education. My research is on validating the assessment of programming skills; that is, I'm trying to work out whether prac and exam results do a good job of telling us whether a student is a competent programmer, and whether other methods might do as good a job more cheaply, or a better job for the same cost.

You can read more about my research on my research page.

Teaching

I've been working as a tutor/demonstrator in Computer Science since 1997. The research idea sprang from my teaching experience; my Bachelors degree is in Computer Science, not Education. I've tutored the following units:

In Semester 1 2009, I will be tutoring FIT1008 Computer Science and FIT2043 Technical Documentation for Software Engineers.
