TITLE: Memory Effect 001 NOTES: Memory Effect 001 consists of three synthesised voices, each comprised of a tone generator, a particle synthesiser (granulator) and delays. Root values of the piece are based on a chromatic sequence (G#, A, Bb, B, C, Db, D, Eb, E, F, Gb, G). A three note melody is played in voices 2 and 3 with Pattern Use values of 68%. An additional Mutation Factor of 611/1000, provides significant variation of the simple three note melody. Voice 2 contains a three note chord structure that varies in density over time. Voice 3 contains a two note chord structure carrying the same change values as Voice 2. |

| The entire piece cycles at 40 minute intervals and has been exported from KoanPro® as a VectorAudio file. Less than 1kb, this file contains all attributes to perform this piece generatively using the SKME® (SSEYO KOAN MUSIC ENGINE) and the SKSE® (SSEYO KOAN SYNTH ENGINE) available in this form as a Web browser plugin. Photos taken from 1948 - 1968 by late WW2 refugee, Alex Garton. He arrived in Australia in 1950 as part of a two year migrant working scheme. ABOUT: Andrew Garton
A
Melbourne based sound and media artist, began composing electronic music in
the late 70s. He studied composition in
Sydney under Sykes Rose in the early 80s and performed with numerous bands,
ensembles and free improvisation groups. Andrew
has written for television, the stage and has contributed to several international
collaborations, with artists such as Ludwig Zeininger, Kazayuki Null, Hank Bull,
Ollie Olsen, Stelarc, Tetsuo Kogawa, Jimi Chen and Martin Breindl.
He has been producing generative artworks since 1996 and more recently, has been collaborating with video artists from Melbourne and Taipei towards a simultaneous live performance of sound and image. Andrew's work is informed by social and cultural concerns, specifically that of identity and the maintenance of oral historys. His soundworks are released under his own label, Secession Records, the publishing arm of the Toy Satellite Collective.
ABOUT: Tim Cole
Tim Cole is co-founder of the generative composition tool, KoanPro. In recent years, Tim has influenced the development of the VectorAudio format created by SSEYO Ltd, for the realisation of mobile music devices such as toys, game environments and PDAs.
