Sci-Art (Art based on, or developed in collaboration with, Science) is to this decade what New Media Art was to the 1990s. Sci-Art is in because everyone's reading popular science books – the public are now more "informed" about science than ever before. But is Art just jumping on the bandwaggon – borrowing from the cultural acceptability and intellectual credibility of science? Or does Art really have something new to offer Science?

Earlier such projects were called "renaissance teams" implying the last major collaborations between Art and Science were 600 years ago.

Art needs Science more than Science needs Art.
