The city of Melbourne is a bustling metropolis with a population of about 3.5 million people. It is well serviced by international and domestic air services. Direct international flights are available from mainland USA and Japan. Flights from Europe are usually via Asia.

Melbourne's comprehensive public transport system of trams, trains and buses permits easy travel throughout the metropolitan area.

The conference will be held during summer in the southern hemisphere. Temperatures average 25 degrees Celsius in December.

Melbourne is also an excellent gateway to see the rest of the vast Australian continent. Your local travel agent should be able to arrange travel and accomodation for other places within Australia.

Airport Information

Melbourne Airport is approximately 20km from the city. A taxi ride from the airport to the city will cost about $30.

A SkyBus service operates 24 hours a day between the Airport and the city centre. The service runs approximately every 30 minutes at a cost of A$10 each way. Drop off points are located throughout the city centre close to hotels and facilities.

Public Transport

It's easy to get to the conference from one of the conference hotels via a short train trip. You are best to purchase a Zone 1 Daily Ticket (cost $4.40) which allows unlimited travel on all trams, trains and busses in the inner Melbourne area on the day of use.

If you are staying in the central business district (downtown) at the Lindrum, Adelphi or Holiday Inn, take the train from Flinders Street Station to Caulfield Station. Trains on the Cranbourne / Pakenham Line stop at Caulfield Station. The travel time is about 13 mins.

If you are staying at the Carnegie Motor Inn take the train from Carnegie station to Caulfield station. Trains on the Cranbourne / Pakenham Line stop at Caulfield station. The travel time is about 3 mins.
