Our Research And Motivation - Demand for enhanced efficiency and performance due to substantial demand growth in upgrading future railway infrastructure

Custom designed robotic configuration suited to real-time inspection and maintenance of health of the railway infrastructure and dedicated distributed computing networks for online access for predictive maintenance: We propose to devise novel robots and communication networks for the following three identified work domains-

 

1. Automated Inspection

Current Methods:

Manual; Dedicated vehicle; Instrumented Revenue Vehicle

Proposed - Justification for Robots in Railway Inspections:

  • Standardization/Uniformity

  • Availability/portability

  • Remote sensing and Intelligent diagnostics

  • Ability to work with other robots

  • Mobile & flying device – catastrophic failure inspection of Infrastructure health

 

2. Automated Maintenance

Current Methods:

Welding; Repairs; Instrumented Revenue Vehicle

Proposed - Justification for Robots in Railway Maintenance:

  • Same as inspection

  • Customised, Dedicated configuration design Ã  improved efficiency

 

3. Smart Operations

  • Interfacing with IT Communications & Data Transfer

  • Driverless Trains and Robots in Control Room

  • Tele Presence (Using our Medical Example) – Expert Remote assistance
