Art Theory, a very short introduction
Oxford University Press, Oxford (review)

This pocket guide is a readable introduction to Art Theory. It is suitable for the student who needs a quick introduction to the principal ideaas of the field and for academics searching for well-considered examples of art works that exemplify or challenge various answers to the eternal, "What is Art?" question. The discussion ranges from Leonardo Da Vinci to Diamanda Galas, from paint on canvas to the WWW, from Plato to Baudrillard.

The text is well organized and as thorough as such a tiny, portable format could be expected to entertain. A good book for carrying during travel!
