4WD Field Day

Land Rover Owners Club of Victoria
4WD Field Day
Sunday 17 November 1996

Wandin Park, Victoria Road, Wandin North

A popular event on the Victorian 4WD calendar is the annual Land Rover Owners Club of Victoria Field Day.

Organised and run by members of the club, the Field Day is held at Wandin Park in Wandin North. It has earned a reputation as one of the best outdoor and camping shows with something for owners of 4WD and 2WD alike. Last year's show lived up to the reputation with over 7000 people attending!

The Field Day has all this and more - equipment demonstrations, 4WD demo track, CFA and SES displays, over 100 commercial exhibitors, more than 20 4WD club displays, an `Iron Man' contest, rare and unusual special vehicles, helicopter joy flights, great food, music, and entertainment for the kids.

Club members will demonstrate many aspects of 4WD touring and camping by. Dynamic demonstrations of tyre changing and repair, chain fitting, winching and bush cooking, are complemented by displays of vehicle equipment and camping equipment. LROCV members, identifiable on the day by their green and gold t-shirts and club badges, will be happy to discuss any aspect of the demonstrations.

The most dynamic demonstration is on `the track'. The hugely popular demonstration track offers rides in a variety of 4WDs. Each vehicle will take passengers for a five minute ride around a specially constructed track, incorporating many features encountered on a 4WD trip.

Special exhibits include the State Emergency Service and the Country Fire Authority. During the day, you can watch them put out a burning car, and cut it open, during a simulated emergency.

In between demonstrations, you can visit the large and varied collection of commercial exhibitors. Over one hundred commercial exhibitors will be offering the widest range of 4WD accessories, outdoor and camping equipment. If you want to check out new vehicles, many dealers will have their latest models on show. Small companies and businesses will be showing off their innovative products alongside the larger companies' proven product ranges. Whether you are looking for D-shackles, winches, a camper trailer, a new tent or a new vehicle, you will be able to get it at Wandin, at a competitive price.

At the LROCV Club Tent you can to talk to members about club activities. On offer is a free technical manual covering aspects of the day's demonstrations. The manual comes from over 25 years of practical experience within the club. We provide it to promote safe and responsible 4WD touring and camping. Many other 4WD clubs and the Victoria Association of Four Wheel Drive Clubs will be there to discuss club activities and the benefits of club membership.

When you are ready for a break and a sit-down, it will be time for the `Iron Man' contest. Teams from four clubs will negotiate their vehicles through a variety of obstacles - no engines running though - just people-power!

As the day is for families, there has to be an inflatable castle and other entertainment for the kids - all free! There's a bush band for everybody to enjoy, and lots of good food from the selected caterers.

The Field Day opens to the public at 10am through to 4pm on Sunday 17 November 1996 at Wandin Park, Victoria Road, Wandin North (Melways 119G7 - watch for the signs). Entry is $8 per adult and includes programme, parking and entry in the prize draw. Children under 16 are free!
